A great way to take strain off your shoulder is to have things in comfortable range, so you’re not over-reaching all day with your already sore shoulder constantly aggravating it.

You can use a narrow keyboard without a number pad, so that way the mouse is nice and close, removing a lot of strain from your neck and shoulder.

Don’t let yourself get sucked into the screen. There is lots of things that will make a difference but here’s the top 2.

The top of the screen should be about eye level. If you’re working from a laptop it’s best to use a laptop stand that will hold the laptop up and put the screen at the ideal height. You can then use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. This simple tip will take a load of pressure off your neck.

Sort out your lower back position to save your neck

Your spine is “S” shaped, a bigger curve at the bottom will lead to a bigger curve higher up to compensate. So, if your lower back is in a poor position your neck will be too. So, sit your bum into the back corner of the seat to ensure your lower back is in a decent position.

It’s tempting to tilt your keyboard upwards when you find the little adjustments at the back. It’s usually best not to do this as it can increase the strain on your wrist.

How can I make my home office more ergonomic?

 

  1. Sort out glare on your screen by adjusting your monitor placement or using blinds, don’t strain your eyes long term.
  2. Short breaks allow your eyes to relax
  3. Some monitors have an eye care mode that doesn’t flicker as much as can be easier on your eyes.
  4. If you’re looking at detailed items use a reasonable quality monitor, so it has an easy-to-read screen. This can make work much easier on your eyes and help you avoid headaches.
  5. Have the top of your screen about eye level
  6. Have your elbows just below 90 degrees to the desk
  7. Avoid the temptation to sit like froggy for too long
